Welcome to the KUW Insight Podcast. Today’s insight is titled Defense Policy written by Ade Ojomo and read by Morenike Olubode:

1.    Have you ever been badly hurt by someone?

2.    What measures have you put in place to prevent a recurrence?

3.    How effective are these measures?

“The amount of money spent by nations in shoring up their defense is enough to wipe out global poverty.”

My understanding is that this statement was made by a former British Prime Minister.

In our personal lives we sometimes erect costly barriers to protect ourselves from people, organizations and even ourselves. There was a time when neighbours were like members of the same family. Nowadays, we cannot send our children to the corner shop to buy a newspaper without fretting!

The government does not help, as all sorts of defensive measures have been drafted in. Some are positive, but quite a number are detrimental to the core values of family life, which is the bedrock of character development.

On the other side of the coin in terms of defensive strategies, people will do anything to accept approval and not rejection. This is based on the notion that if you are liked by someone, there is less possibility of being hurt – WRONG!

God in his infinite wisdom has advocated the best strategy to apply for defense in Proverbs 16 verse 7:

“When a man’s ways are pleasing to the LORD he makes even his enemies live at peace with him”

The good thing about this strategic advice is that it does not cost any money and reinforces the following:

1.    The Almighty God is our Shield and Defender

2.    He is the Glory and Lifter of our head

3.    He has given his angels charge over us to lift us out of any danger
