1. Do you have an inner circle of friends?
2. What criteria did you used to choose them?
3. Can you trust them with your life?

I was reminiscing about my life yesterday; how God guided me into my current profession, and I am truly amazed in the way he has done it. Most of them, I can attribute to “divine” association and placement.

I studied for an MBA because a close friend was studying for this qualification, and I thought to myself. This seems like a good idea without even any form of due diligence as to what it entails.

I got into my current line of specialisation after a companywide reshuffle. A Manager approached me and asked if I would like to go to US to study a subject matter which was totally need to me. Upon recommendation from a colleague, I decided to give it a shot and the rest as they say is history

God is truly amazing and His advice in Proverbs 13 v 20 gives us some further insight into the power of association:

He who walks with the wise grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm

Please note that I am not advocating against studying to show yourself approved and understand the decisions you have to make; the point of this ‘insight’ is to highlight God’s mercy and favour upon our lives. God is truly the Master strategist, placing people at the right place, at the right time and with the right people.

Points to Ponder:

1. Trust is one of the key benchmarks, when choosing close friends.
2. The Bible advocates that there is a friend that sticks closer than a brother
3. Let your criteria for choosing close friends be based on godliness
